The fishery, which operates in the exclusive economic zone of the United States off the U.S. east coast south of 31° N Latitude, will be assessed against the MSC standard and, if successful, products sold through Day Boat Seafood LLC will be eligible to bear the MSC ecolabel recognizing products from well-managed and sustainable sources. |

In a move lauded by the Pew Environment Group the Maldives today declared its exclusive economic zone (EEZ), 90,000 square kilometers of the Indian Ocean, as a shark sanctuary free from all shark fishing and also banned all imports and exports of shark fins. The Maldives is home to more than 30 shark species, including the scalloped hammerhead, the most prominent shark to be considered for protection at the upcoming meeting of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). |

Norway’s exports of groundfish including clipfish, salted fish and stockfish totalled NOK 967.4 million in February. This is an increase of 8% or NOK 69.2 million compared with February 2009. The volume of exports increased by 17% or 5,700 tonnes to a total of 38,555 tonnes, according to the latest figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council. The increases are attributable to record exports of both fresh and frozen Norwegian Cod products. |
