HG306 Tobis - 39,95 m trawler

Newbuilding 406 from Karstensen Shipyard in Skagen, was launched and delivered to owners Kjaersgaard Hirtshals Ltd on 8 May 2009. HG306 Tobis af Hirtshals

The new vessel replaces the owners previous vessels ”Tobis”, ”Galeota” and ”Pion”. In addition to before mentioned, the owners have purchased a number of other vessels in order to give quota to the new vessel.
Behind the owning company are brothers John & Niels Kjaersgaard, Hirtshals, who will alternate as skippers on the new vessel – trip-on, trip-off. The 2 brothers have taken a very active part of the planning and building of the new vessel.
The owners ideas of optimizing the value of the quota at hand, has resulted in quite a few “firsts” for a Danish white fish trawler, to name a few:

Fileting machine: The vessel is equipped with a Baader 212 filtering machine, which will head-, gut and filet in same machine.

Slurry-ice: The vessel is equipped with a powerful slurry-ice plant, in order to ensure the catch being cooled down as quickly as possible. The slurry-ice can be pumped around on the fish handling deck, as well as into the 2 receiption hoppers.

Silage: The vessel is equipped with a silage system, which will help using the guts and remains from gutted and/or filleted fish. Storage tanks of 25 cum are incorporated into the hull structure.

In addition to above, the owners have emphasized on optimum handling of the fishing gear. Thus “Tobis” is designed as a stern trawler with trawl tracks and stern ramp. This arrangement makes it possible to handle even big and heavy fishing gear safely, efficient and fast. The trawl deck is arranged for a total of 4 complete nets.

Finally it is worth mentioning that the accommodation is built to a very high standard, ie all cabins have en-suite toilet/showers. The accommodation is also noise insulated according to the newest ideas, and the technical trial showed a very low noise level, with reading between 48 and 53 dB(A).

The hull is built in steel with two continuous decks; main deck, shelter deck and long forecastle and boat decks. Hull shape is of round bilge construction with bulbous bow and stern skeg, flared stem and transom stern.
Hull with bulwarks and gallows is constructed in steel. Wheelhouse and mast are built in aluminium.

Below main deck the hull is subdivided into the following watertight compartments: Forepeak, tank section with deep fuel oil tanks SB and PS as well as bow thruster room, insulated hold section (partitioned into fresh- and freezer sections), silage tanks, engine room with main engine connected to one reduction gearbox with one propeller in steerable nozzle and aftpeak with fresh water and fuel oil tanks. On main deck the hull is arranged with: Forepeak, blast freezer room, accommodation section SB, fish handling area with loading/unloading hatch off-set to PS and fish hoppers aft CL with exhaust casing PS and engine access and ventilation trunk PS.

All aft SB workshop, CL steering gear compartment and PS harbour gen-set room.

Shelter deck is arranged with 4 sweep line winches forward, 2 double bobbin tracks from winches and aft leading into double trawlramp at stern. Centre partition on either side of trawlramp at stern to be mounted for access to 3.-wire clump. Forward, just abaft sweepline winches casings SB and PS are erected. Aft of casing SB foundation for one split trawl winch to be positioned, in PS unloading hatch with foundation for PS split trawl winch abaft. Aft casings for exhaust PS and ventilation SB is mounted. At stern trawl gallow with suspensions for 3 off trawl blocks built into vessels construction. Trawl gallow is lifted in centre section, in order to create height below clump.
Forward of stern gates cod-end hatches are mounted, flush with shelter deck.
On forecastle-/boat deck level full breadth, low bridge deck superstructure is erected forward. Abaft superstructure 2 off gilson winches are placed in CL, with gilson gantry above and double, single netdrums abaft. Foundation for unloading/gearhandling crane is mounted on PS.

Cod-end winch/-drum is mounted at forward side of fantail. Aft, on lifted centre section, foundation for 1 outhaul winch with hinged derrick is mounted.
Double posted cod-end gantry is mounted SB and PS, doubling as funnel for exhaust pipes. French-style cod-end drum is fitted to underside of cross beam.

On bridge deck aluminium wheelhouse, with 360° view and deep windows at aft panel.
