Favonius PD17

Brand new design from Macduff.

Macduff Shipyards Limited, Fraserburgh, has built a trawler for Andrew and Phil Buchan of Peterhead. The new Favonius PD17 is working out of Peterhead through Caley Fisheries Limited. Favonius is laid out for both pair trawling and prawn trawling.

The new Favonius, LOA 23metres, is a replacement for the Buchan brothers’ previous vessel, a wooden hulled vessel Aspire FR793. Macduff had also constructed Aspire. Favonius was designed and constructed exclusively by Macduff.

While constructed to the Buchan brothers’ specifications, Macduff have constructed Favonius, LOA 23metres, with good reserve stability, allowing alterations to the design if additional net drums were required on the top deck.

Favonius has a breadth of 7.8metres, a depth of 4.2metres and totals at 230 tonnes. It also has a fuel capacity of 18167litres (not including a service tank) and a water capacity of 25927liters.

A Mitsubishi S6R2 MPTK engine was chosen, along with a Reintjes WAF374 reverse reduction gearbox with a reduction ratio of 7.091:1, driving a Kort 2300mm diameter 4 blade propeller in a Kort XL fixed nozzle.

The Mitsubishi was engine supplied by Macduff, while Cummins supplied the 6CTA8.3 auxiliary engine, fitted on the starboard side to drive pumps for deck machinery.

Favonius has 1 Macduff 3 drum trawl winch (two speed with C210 motor), two Macduff split net drums and a TMA Gibson winch. Macduff also supplied the fish handling system, with fishroom cooling and ice maker by Premier Refrigeration.

Woodsons of Aberdeen Limited supplied all electronic equipment.
