Newbuilding VE401 Þorunn Sveinsdottir

Newbuilding 409 from Karstensen Shipyard in Skagen, was delivered to owners ÓS ehf on 20 December 2010.

The new vessel replaces the owners previous vessel, originally built in Akureyri, Iceland in 1990, bearing same name, but now sold, and renamed “Suderey”.

Behind the owning company is retired skipper Sigurjon Oskarsson. Mr Oskarssons sons, Vidar & Gylfi Sigurjonsson will be part of the vessels crew, as relief skipper / mates. Mr Oskarssons daughter, Þóra Hrönn takes care of the shore side and administration of theis family business.

Main captain onboard will be Gudmundur Gudlaugsson, who has been working with ÓS for nearly 30 years.

“Þórunn Sveinsdóttir” is the first of a new generation of white fish vessels for the Icelandic fleet. The vessel is equipped with a complete array of electric winches, supplied by Rapp Hydema. And many other new features is included in this state-of-art white fish trawler.

The basic design originates from Karstensens previous line of successful stern trawlers, such as “Westro”, “Audacious” and “Mark Amay”. For the record, “Westro” was renamed “Bergur” some years ago, and is owned by Gylfi Sigurjonssons family-in-law…
However during the design of “Þórunn Sveinsdóttir”, the hull lines and complete layout was further developed and optimized. Extensive model tests were carried out at CTO tank facilities in Gdansk, Poland, in order to optimize the fuel economy.
Finally it is also worth mentioning. That the accommodation is also noise insulated according to the newest ideas, and the technical trial showed a very low noise level, with reading between 46 and 53 dB(A).
