New funding must be spent wisely
Responding to the announcement today (21 May) at the Fishing 2010 exhibition in Glasgow by Fisheries Minister Richard Lochhead that an extra 6 million pounds will be made available to support the Fisheries Action Plan, Bertie Armstrong, chief executive of the Scotttish Fishermen’s Federation said:
“We welcome this announcement and the priority now for the industry is to consult and discuss how to make the most efficient use of this funding and the kind of measures that should be implemented under the plan.
“It was made very clear to the Minister today by the Scottish fishing industry that the fleet is facing an extremely difficult time. He recognized this fact and the need to quickly formulate structured measures that will help the fleet survive.”
